I met Mel Allen in the grandstands at Ascot in the mid 70's. He promoted the very first Ascot race, he gave me a poster of that, and later promoted the Orange Show Speedway for many years. In fact, he took that dirt track and paved it, because as his wife once told me, it was easier to get ready for races each week. Mel was a great sprint car fan and we use to visit him at his home. He always was on the TV ordering stuff and presented Terry with some of this "inexpensive stuff". He got involved with the start of the Wags stuff and enjoyed our growing pains. He was a heavy smoker and died of throat cancer. R.I.P. Mel.
