One of the nicest guys in the pits ever, Gale was a smart crew member for Billy Wilkerson for many years. He was a trusted friend of Billy and made racing fun to be around him. His calm and friendly attitude was warm and many others could have learned from him. Once, when I complemented him on a good job in print, he said Billy should get all the credit, and meant it! True Billy was a very special person, but so was Gale and often famous and special people like Billy are also known because of the people around them. Gale didn't want to draw attention to himself, so he always passed the credit on. His smile is always welcome in the pits.
