DAVID SINSLEY- #69X

David was born forty-four years ago and raised in the South Bay. Introduced to speed at an early age, since his Dad and Engine Builder, Ed Donovan were buddies and ran a Drag Racer together. Longtime CRA Car Owner and Crew Chief, Jim Bartosh is David's Godfather. When he was young, Sinsley remembers one of the guys that hung around the shop, called Rufus, better known as Parnelli. His Dad worked for Vel's Ford during the time they fielded a successful Indy team, so David was familiar with many of the heroes at a young age.

As a youngster, Sinsley tried his hand in Quarter Midgets and Motocross. At Torrance High School, he excelled in track and football, garnering All League honors as a Safety in football. David went on to El Camino College where he competed in both football and track. It was here that Sinsley started to train for the 1988 Olympic team as a Decathlete. After achieving a degree in Fire Science at El Camino, David went on to UCLA concentrating on a training regimen to try and make the Olympic team. An injury cut short the dream of going for the Gold and a hearing problem short-circuited a career in firefighting, prompting a return to racing.

Sinsley first raced in the Pro Gas class as a drag racer and later piloted Cracker Box boats for several years. After a couple of tragedies while racing boats, causing him serious injuries and the loss of a riding partner, David opted for less strenuous pursuits, becoming an avid skier on both water and snow, while settling into an auto repair business.

Six years ago, Snap-On Tools made overtures for Sinsley to establish a franchised business, developing a good customer base and ongoing relationships with these clients. In this time of downturn in the economy, the business has remained fairly stable.

As the competitive juices began to churn once again, David, who had grown up on the fringes of Sprint Car racing found a new hook. Sinsley purchased a car from George Gervais in early 2001. It was the same 360 car, in which George had begun his sprint car experience. David's Andy Bondio encouraged Sinsley to attend the Cory Kruseman Driving School and learn the basics of how to get one of these beasts around the track. After completing Kruseman's training session, with his acquired mechanical skills, David rebuilt the engine, stripped the car, repainted and assembled it for battle.

Sinsley has campaigned with both the VRA at Ventura and SCRA at Perris. Although the car is underpowered for the SCRA, he says the experience of running with some of the best drivers in the country has been stimulating and it is exciting to be a part of the organization. David performed double duty at the recent VRA/SCRA doubleheader at Perris, being able to note the differences of running the VRA spec tire and the softer SCRA skin. His goal is to become a competent driver with the SCRA and compete regularly in the feature races.

Keith Smith serves as the Crew Chief with assistance from Drew and Terree Booth; along with David Bell, who +-also brought in some sponsorship for this basically self sponsored operation. Former Gervais Crew Chief, Tim Huver has been quite beneficial with his help and advice in setting up the car. Mike Cook, a competitor with the VRA Senior class and an engine builder with roots also from the old days of drag racing, provided Sinsley with counsel on racing setups and engine adjustments.

When queried, Sinsley named Parnelli Jones and Mario Andretti as all time heroes, with the Gasman and Kruseman as his modern day selection. Rickie Gaunt became his personal hero by supplying tips on what line to follow and how to adjust that line to gain speed. He favors both Perris and Ventura tracks, for the unique differences of each.
